PROCESS A powerful image starts with the heart. Emotion. Connection. Context. Those three factors drive Quincy’s creative process. Quincy only shoots landscapes which light a certain spark, a fire that inspires him to share their story. Before setting off with his camera, Quincy researches a location in great detail to become familiar with the intricacies of the local environment. Upon arrival, his first reaction is not to reach for his tripod, but to move quietly and observe the scene with all of his senses. Only after he feels connected with the landscape does the technical process of making images begin. Quincy prefers the soft quality of light just before sunrise or into the early twilight. He often returns to the same locations again and again to capture the mood of the landscape under different atmospheric conditions. Quincy works with a Linhof Technorama 617s III manufactured in Bavaria. The simple precision of the Linhof enables him to capture outstanding depth and detail. The large format makes it possible to produce prints of the highest quality. Fuji Velvia 50 is the capture medium of choice due to its outstanding vibrancy, sharpness, and natural tonal reproduction. Quincy’s objective is to remain faithful to the scene as experienced in front of the camera.
